Investment opportunity at $17.5 million ($125/hectare, $50/acre)

Nearly this entire property is mature forest located in the Amazon forest area of Brazil. These commonly contain 150 to 300 m3/hectare. Timber harvesting approvals can be obtained under sustainable management plans that allow selective harvesting of up to 25 to 30 m3/ha. Considering riparian buffers and other issues, there is the potential over the first harvest cycle of nearly 3.4 million cubic meters, which is more than 15 billion board feet.

This is also an area in which projections of potential deforestation over the next 10 years are projected to be fairly significant. This may be found to have a high value for an REDD (Reduced Emissions from Degradation and Deforestation) into the international carbon trading market.

916,000 hectares (2.3 million acres), western Amazonas State, Brazil
Investment opportunity at $125 million ($136/hectare, $55/acre)

This is certainly one of the largest single tract in private ownership on Earth. The owners have developed an area of nearly 2,000 hectares in the SE corner of the tract, next to the city of Carauari, for various farming activities, a river port and as an on-site management center. This city has a potential work force and a commercial airport. The vast majority of the property is virgin forest in which timber harvesting is a legal possibility.
